Pathology Project & Analyst Support Officer

Department Pathology

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

A new opportunity has become available in MKUH Pathology services, we are seeking an engaging and enthusiastic individual to provide IT analytical data support within the pathology systems team working in collaboration across the South Four (S4) network.

The pathology laboratory operates collaboratively as part of the South 4 Pathology Partnership comprising of Oxford University Hospitals, Buckinghamshire hospitals, Milton Keynes University hospital and Great Western Hospitals, a large network employing over 1000 staff generating over 34 million tests per year.

Networking collaboratively with colleagues to improve quality, efficiency and consistency across the network is a key priority for the post holder.

The post holder will:

* Ensure data processing and reporting is performed in a timely and accurate manner and status is reported to relevant stakeholders
* To actively seek performance improvements and work with the team in developing and implementing new business intelligence designs in current and future development

Main duties of the job

To ensure the successful implementation of the Milton Keynes PCN hubs and their connection to ICE

To provide support and assistance to the Pathology Systems Manager & Quality Support Analyst in delivering an effective and timely pathology systems service, through a mix of ad-hoc and project-based work. The responsibilities of the post-holder will be diverse and dependent on the needs of the pathology department.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be required to assist in the development, maintenance and performance of new and existing pathology systems.

To complete configuration set up of PCN hubs in Milton Keynes and to produce regular progress reports for BLMK Transformation board

To be involved in the extraction, processing and validation of complex data from various data sources, including with large data sets, on a project and ad-hoc basis as required.

To develop and maintain a Pathology data warehouse

To ensure the existing data reporting processes are regularly reviewed to ensure timely and accurate reporting of data both internally and externally. To build connections from multiple data sources to PowerBI in order to produce interactive departmental dashboards

Provide training and support on newly developed features and work with end users on developing enhancements.

To resolve queries from service users

To troubleshoot complex connection issues with interoped systems

To be involved in the analysis of data quality, including the investigation of issues and recommendations for their resolution.

Ensure that development, design and change control documentation is kept up to date and change control processes are followed.

To manage and maintain own workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.

To produce high quality, accurate work that is auditable.

To continually strive to improve technical skills, including researching new software tools and data reporting techniques to ensure best practice.

Expert use of full Microsoft 365 package, specifically Excel and PowerBI

Safe and responsible use of departmental software/hardware including installing new workstations

Maintain critical management/backup machines

Person Specification


Qualifications and knowledge

* Extensive knowledge of pathology systems i.e. WinPath
* Good understanding of pathology data sets
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365


Experience

* Previous experience using NHS datasets to provide analytical information
* Experience of using pathology systems i.e. WinPath
* Experience using statistical software packages
* Experience providing user support


Skills

* Ability to work independently and proactively.
* Good communication skills, with emphasis on ability to liase with external service users
* Methodical and efficient way of dealing with complex issues.


Personal and people development

* Ability to work well in a team.
* To be disciplined and self motivated
* Desire to continue professional development.
* High attention to detail


Communication

* Ability to communicate effectively with all users of pathology systems including within the Trust and externally
