Controls Engineer – Automation & Robotics Location: Norwich

We are seeking a talented Controls Engineer to join our growing engineering team, working at the forefront of automation technology. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing and programming robust, efficient control systems that controls/sequences bespoke automated machinery and advanced robotics.
This is a primarily office-based/hybrid role, working closely with our mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams.
The role of Controls Engineer will include:
Designing, specifying, and developing PLC-based control systems for automated machinery
Creating and maintaining structured PLC code – working toward standardised, reusable blocks
Integrating technologies such as motion control, robotics, pneumatics, sensors, and third-party equipment
Developing user-friendly HMI interfaces
Supporting the commissioning team by providing control system expertise, diagnostics, and advice.
Collaborating with mechanical and electrical design teams to ensure cohesive system development
Participating in project reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives
The suitable
Proven experience as a Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer
Strong knowledge of PLC programming, such as Siemens, Rockwell, Codesys or B&R.
Understanding of motion control, robotics, pneumatics, and system integration
Experience designing and developing HMI interfaces
Ability to write clean, well-structured, and reusable code
Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills
Clear communicator, confident in technical discussions with multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable Qualifications:
Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, or related discipline
Familiarity with safety systems and relevant machinery standards
Experience working in a project-driven manufacturing or machine-building environment
