Our CARDIFF HARBOUR AUTHORITY, Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 4) Cultural Heritage Project Officer based at Queen Alexandra House, CF10 4LY, to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver two substantial archive projects using the Peoples Collection Wales as a legacy to the Flat Holm A Walk Through Time project as well as a Cardiff Harbour Authority/Cardiff Bay archive with complimentary museum collection on Flat Holm and at a location in Cardiff Bay and the potential to be involved in other heritage projects.

About the job

In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 4) role you will learn to:

Deliver two substantial archive projects using the Peoples Collection Wales to create an archive of photographs, and documents as a legacy to the Flat Holm A Walk Through Time project as well as Cardiff Harbour Authority/Cardiff Bay. The postholder will also be involved in updating our museum collections on Flat Holm as well as reviewing a Harbour/ Cardiff Bay digital collection currently in the Barrage café, In addition, they will assist in developing a collection to be temporarily housed at a location in Cardiff Bay likely to be the Norwegian Church and other heritage projects, as needed.

This will include learning to: provide project support working in a creative and cultural context; use project management techniques to support the project; Work effectively with other people in a creative and cultural context; Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety working with others in a business environment; learning to provide excellent customer service skills by telephone, email or face to face; working digitally to provide an efficient and effective service and respond to customer enquiries; undertake general office administration in a digital environment; use various software applications such as Word, Excel and design software

Full training will be provided and our Team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner

To support your development, you will undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Project Management at Level 4 the role and will receive on the job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer focussed manner. You will also be supported by your manager and a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.

Many of our teams work online with a mix of home or hybrid (office) working. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment and training, however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (support may be available to help with this).

There may be a need for some occasional evening and weekend working because part of the job will involve working with volunteers.

As a Corporate Apprentice, you will gain valuable experience working for Cardiff - the largest Council in Wales. Although we cannot guarantee that you will go on to secure a further role at the end of the initial contract, you will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation to help progress your career.

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must live in Cardiff and have not already gained the apprenticeship qualification (or NVQ equivalent) offered in this role at the same Level or higher. Graduates living in Cardiff are not eligible to apply for Level 2 Apprenticeship roles but may be eligible to apply for other roles, including Level 3 apprenticeships or above, provided their degree modules are different to the apprenticeship qualification content offered in the role.

This post is not suitable for post share.

This post is temporary for 27 months if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37-hour week though many roles can be worked on a part time basis at a minimum of 16 hours per week for apprentice roles.

Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
