We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to take up a post as Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to expand current skills and gain some management and leadership development within the senior team.
You will be required to assist the Charge Nurse in the day to day management of the Ward as well as deputising when He/She is away. The successful applicant will be expected to work a flexible shift pattern.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust offers a range of further in-house training for skills relevant to this position.
The post holder is the designated deputy to the person with continuing responsibility. He/She is designated to regularly take charge of the ward and provide effective professional and managerial leadership to all staff in the absence of Sister.
On a 24 bedded Gastroenterology ward.
This speciality is very diverse and offers the opportunity for training and development
Hours per week: 37.5 - Rotational Shift Pattern.
Main duties of the job
1. Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct (Ensures working colleagues also act in accordance with Code of Conduct), and within the principles of the scope of Professional Practice and ensures other members of the team also work within these.
2. Supervises the work of the nursing team.
3. Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
4. Undertakes the nursing assessment of the patient including risk assessments e.g. Tissue viability, falls - -these are not exhaustive.
5. Ensures plans of care for patients are written and updated as appropriate.
6. Regularly takes charge of the ward and deputises for the Ward Sister.
7. Assists the Ward Sister in the effective organisation of the Ward.
8. Ensures that all equipment supplies, equipment and the ward environment is maintained to a high standard.
9. Liaises appropriately with the ward Sister ensuring open and effective communication is maintained. In Sister’s absence liaises with Matron.
