Job Description
As a Technology Principal (Security), you'll work directly with our largest government and financial services clients to solve their most complex digital and security challenges, applying critical thinking to break down problems and identify practical solutions — with performance, scalability, security, and resilience built in from the start. You might start your week reviewing a detection engineering strategy for a major government department, spend time with a delivery team working through threat modelling on a live service, then present a secure cloud architecture to a client's senior leadership team.
Your background building and deploying enterprise-scale digital services in regulated and security-conscious environments means you can credibly advise on what works in practice, using systems thinking to understand how security decisions connect across the broader service and business context. Whether that's designing SIEM architectures and detection engineering capabilities across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, architecting zero trust models for hybrid and multi-cloud environments, helping a bank modernise their data platform while meeting strict regulatory requirements, or embedding AI security governance and DevSecOps practices across a delivery lifecycle — you bring both strategic thinking and hands-on experience to every situation. You apply frameworks such as NCSC guidance, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials as practical tools that shape better outcomes, enabling effective security risk management, not compliance checklists.
You'll collaborate with diverse teams including user researchers, product managers, software engineers, SOC analysts, and business stakeholders, taking a stakeholder-focused approach to balance different perspectives while maintaining clear focus on risk and compliance context. Part of your time will involve business development — presenting to potential clients, shaping security-led value propositions, writing technical proposals including sizing and estimation work, and helping win new work that supports business growth across your accounts. You'll need to balance priorities across multiple engagements, often working to tight deadlines.
As part of our central architecture team, you'll work alongside experienced peers who share your passion for solving complex technical challenges. The role offers excellent opportunities for continuous learning through our internal communities, representing Version 1 at conferences and industry events, and working directly with clients on cutting-edge security programmes. You'll also play an active role in shaping how Version 1 approaches emerging risk domains — including AI security governance and the convergence of exposure management and detection engineering — as the threat landscape continues to evolve.
Responsibilities

* Conduct threat modelling sessions on live services and present secure cloud architectures to senior leadership.
* Advise on security architectures across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud; design zero trust models for hybrid/multi-cloud environments.

* Progression from practitioner to accountability with a modern software and security background, capable of leading complex, scaled deliveries with solution architecture and security at the core.
* Experience delivering solutions for government departments or major financial institutions in strict security, compliance, and governance environments, including leading teams of architects or technical specialists.
* Hands-on technical experience building and deploying enterprise-scale digital services using modern approaches (microservices, APIs, hybrid and secure cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud), data architecture, and system integration; applying zero trust principles, secure design patterns, SIEM architecture, security observability, and DevSecOps across the delivery lifecycle.
Highly Desirable
* Government security and assurance experience (e.g., GDS/GOV.UK), HMG security policy, Government Security Classifications, and assurance processes such as GovAssure or SC clearance programs.
* Technical breadth and security leadership across detection engineering, threat and exposure management, identity and access management, and AI security governance, with team leadership and mentoring experience.
