A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Lead Systems Architect to join a highly capable systems engineering function, becoming an integral part of delivering Mission Planning & Control products for a complex, next-generation weapon system operating across the UK and multiple international partners.
This role performs the duties of the Lead Systems Architect and reports into a senior technical leader within the Mission Planning & Control organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and generate all architectural artefacts within the Mission Planning & Control boundary across a highly complex weapon system
* Lead and govern system architecture development through a combination of direct delivery and oversight of other architects
* Drive architectural consistency, modularity and re-use across multiple product variants within a product-line environment
* Influence and support system design decisions across multi-disciplinary engineering teams
* Act as a key technical authority through formal design reviews and assurance activities
* Coordinate and lead architectural work packages across small to medium-sized technical teams
* Collaborate closely with systems, software, integration and programme stakeholders to ensure delivery on time, on cost and on quality
The ideal candidate would have
* Experience working within complex, safety-critical or defence-related engineering environments
* Exposure to product-line or multi-variant system architectures
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams
* The confidence to influence technical direction without direct line management responsibility
* A structured, analytical approach to solving highly complex engineering problems
The ideal candidate must have
* Proven hands-on experience practising Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) on live programmes
* Strong SysML modelling experience using Rhapsody
* Experience owning or leading system or subsystem architectures end-to-end
* Experience working within formally governed engineering lifecycles with robust requirements management and traceability
* Familiarity with tools such as IBM Engineering Workflow Management (RTC) and DOORS Next Generation
