The role

The Particle Physics group of the University of Bristol, UK, seeks a Research Associate to join its LHCb group. The group places a high value on diversity and inclusivity and looks forward to applications from all backgrounds and communities. The position is funded through the STFC Consolidated Grant, until October 2027, with good prospects for further funding in the future. Applicants should hold a PhD in particle physics or a related field, or be about to obtain one. The postholder will work on the so called “flavour anomalies” in beauty hadron decays and measurements of CP violation. The group’s speciality lies in the detailed analysis of multibody decays of beauty and charm hadrons to, by developing sophisticated amplitude analysis techniques to maximise sensitivity to new physics phenomena. The group also has important responsibilities future LHCb detector upgrades, the development of trigger and particle identification technologies using novel hardware accelerators, and the development of fast simulations using generative machine learning techniques.

What will you be doing?

The main focus of the postholder’s job will be data analysis (including opportunities to contribute to phenomenology and software), complemented by contributions to detector operation and future detector development.


You should apply if

Ideally you hold or about to hold a PhD in particle physics and have experience with flavour physics or related; you are a seasoned C++ and Python programmer.

Contract type: Open ended with fixed funding until 30/09/2027 in first instance.
