Digital Engineering Manager
We are looking for an Engineering Chapter Manager to join our award-winning Digital Technology & Change team on a hybrid basis in Solihull. This is your chance to build, nurture and lead a diverse engineering team, shape ways of working across DevOps and Product, and play a key role in delivering impactful IT solutions for npower Business Solutions (nBS).
Key Responsibilities
* Support and lead a team of 26 Engineers and Data Scientists across three pillars, helping them thrive and deliver effectively into product teams.
* Ensure the Engineering Chapter has the skills, capacity, and confidence to support DevOps product lifecycles and digital product roadmaps.
* Promote continuous improvement in engineering practices, including AI adoption, CI/CD and GitOps methodologies.
* Mentor and coach the team to build a high‑performing, collaborative, and supportive culture.
* Guide teams to adopt and maintain architectural standards, principles and guidelines.
* Explore and encourage the adoption of automation, AI and improvements to DevOps lifecycle maturity across product and platform teams.
* Help manage engineering risks, KPIs and HR activities including recruitment, performance reviews and team wellbeing.
* Build strong relationships with internal IT teams and external partners to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
* Stay curious and informed on emerging technologies and trends to inspire innovation and improvement.
Qualifications
* Degree‑level, or equivalent, qualification in IT Engineering, Science or a related field.
* Experienced IT leader with a track record of managing digital engineering or IT development teams, including budgets and external IT partners.
* Solid understanding of Agile, DevOps and Product lifecycle methodologies, and how modern engineering tools, platforms & practices integrate with them.
* Experience managing IT risks, audits and security compliance collaboratively with stakeholders.
* Excellent strategic thinking, problem‑solving and communication skills.
* Ability to foster an inclusive, collaborative and supportive team culture.
Nice to Have
* Knowledge of outsourcing or global delivery methodologies.
* Experience in a regulated environment or within the utilities/energy sector.
* Experience managing relationships with senior or C‑suite partners.
