GSL Education are actively recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to work at an Alternative Provision located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, starting in September 2024.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored support and interventions to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom
* Provide 1:1 support for children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, and associated behavioural needs.
* Implement strategies to support positive behaviour management and de-escalate challenging situations.
* Liaise with the SENCO and other school leaders to follow Education Health Care Plan objectives to ensure outcomes are met.
* Assist students with SEMH needs in accessing the curriculum and completing academic tasks.
* Work closely with classroom teachers, SENCO, and other relevant staff to coordinate support and interventions for students.
* Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.
SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:
* Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
* Experience working with students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting for at least 6 months. Placements through University or volunteering experiences will be accepted.
* Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
o Be able to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
o An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
