Join the Modern Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery with NHS Lanarkshire (Wishaw) and NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
Key Details
* Location: University Hospital Wishaw
* Duration: Fixed term post for 12 months
* Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1 October 2025 (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with care experience). Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5/National 5.
* Annex 21: Trainee pay is 70% of the qualified staff salary in year 1, as per Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
What We Offer
* Training: On-the-job training to develop a diverse range of catering skills.
* Qualification: Work towards a SCQF Level 5 qualification in Professional Cookery with City of Glasgow College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
* Support: A dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team, and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.
What We're Looking For
* Motivated individuals eager to join the Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
* Skills: Strong communication, customer service, ability to follow instructions, time management, and adherence to procedures.
* Interest: A genuine interest in catering and chef roles with a positive attitude toward work and professional development.
* Qualifications: Demonstrate ability to work at National 5/SCQF Level 5.
Duties As a Chef (May Include)
* Prepare daily menu items for patients, staff, and visitors
* Produce, present, and service function menus as required
* Use equipment safely and correctly in daily food production
* Maintain department hygiene standards in all food prep areas
* Comply with food hygiene regulations & HACCP; take daily food samples
No Prior Experience
No prior experience is required, but some understanding of a kitchen/hospitality environment is an advantage.
