About Us:

Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Job Coach to support learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in achieving meaningful work-based learning and employment outcomes. Working closely with students, employers, families, and staff, you will coach and guide young people with SEND to develop the skills, confidence, and independence needed for the workplace. This role involves job matching, employer engagement, on-site support, and promoting inclusive employment practices across a range of settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored coaching and support to learners with SEND in their work placements.

Collaborate with tutors, managers, employers, families, and external agencies to create a supportive work environment.

Assist learners in building essential skills, such as time management, customer service, and catering.

Conduct health and safety checks and create risk assessments for work placements.

Develop and adapt employability plans to meet individual needs, promoting growth and independence.

Support learners in overcoming barriers to employment and ensure their well-being at all times

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience.

Experience supporting young people with SEND in developing work skills.

Experience assisting young people with SEND in the workplace, on work experience, or through Supported Internship programmes.

Experience collaborating with a range of partners to deliver successful learning programmes.

Experience managing social enterprise projects involving people with SEND.

Experience maintaining records related to learner progress.

Experience liaising with young people and families to arrange placements and provide feedback.

Understanding of health and safety reqquirements in a workplace setting.

Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education All employment offers are subject employment checks. These include (some of which are dependent on the role and the individual): Enhanced DBS including Children’s Barred List check, DfE teaching/management Barred List check, on-line searches, overseas criminal record check, evidence of identity and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references, confirmation of medical fitness, evidence of relevant qualifications and a check of previous employment history.

You will be required to become familiar with the College's policies, and comply with the requirements to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. All staff are asked to complete mandatory training in relation to KCSIE and other key areas, and to read the relevant policies.

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that we advertise our salaries on a range to indicate the trajectory of progression that can be made. Appointments are usually made at the start of the salary range.
