Advanced Avionics System Engineer position at Vertical Aerospace. We are pioneering electric aviation with the VX4 eVTOL, aiming for zero emissions and a new safety standard as we scale from a prototype to an SME. We expect to achieve VX4 service by 2030.
What to expect: we are seeking a highly talented Avionic Systems Engineer to participate in the design, development and integration of the Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Systems for an eVTOL platform. The candidate will contribute to the full lifecycle of avionics development, including system definition, integration testing and support for certification processes. This role is ideal for someone working toward a Senior Engineer level with ownership of key subsystems or technical work packages.
What You’ll Do
 * Avionics: Support the Data and Communications Systems team with design and integration of communication, navigation and surveillance systems. Develop requirements, description documents, interface control documents, test procedures and reports. Support testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
 * Modelling & Requirements Management: Capture the engineering specification in Vertical’s modelling & requirements environment to enable end-to-end traceability for designed components.
 * Verification and Validation: Perform verification and validation activities to ensure systems meet user requirements and function as intended.
 * System Integration: Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure system compatibility and integration into the platform.
 * Deliver: Lead tasks within the Data and Communication Systems team, take responsibility for hardware and software delivery within your domain, and plan, design and execute lab test activities and produce design documentation.
 * Technological Advancement: Stay current with technological advancements and look to implement new technologies into designs.
What You’ll Bring
 * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in avionics engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical & electronic engineering or a related field. Additional training in systems engineering is a plus.
 * Proven experience in avionic systems engineering (>5 years).
 * Working knowledge of communication, navigation and surveillance systems.
 * Familiarity with ARP4761, ARP4754 and DO-160.
 * Familiarity with avionics standards and communication protocols (e.g., ARINC 429, CAN, RS-422, MIL-STD-1553).
 * Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies.
 * Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
 * Knowledge of aviation regulations (e.g., FAA, EASA) and standards related to communication, navigation and surveillance systems.
 * Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems (3DX preferred).
 * Experience with system modelling applications (MATLAB System Composer preferred).
 * Experience with requirements management tools (JAMA preferred).
