Planet Pharma is looking for a Laboratory Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy research environment supporting around 80 scientists. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in maintaining high-tech lab spaces and contributing to the development of brand-new facilities in Central London, expected to open around 2027/2028.
What you’ll be doing:
* Managing all aspects of lab operations: equipment maintenance, supply chain, contractor coordination, and safety compliance.
* Overseeing core services such as gas systems, LEV, temperature monitoring, waste disposal, and stores.
* Supporting lab refurbishments, repairs, and layout planning for new facilities.
* Acting as the main point of contact for lab-related issues, including emergency response.
* Leading procurement, managing service contracts, and maintaining inventory.
* Training and onboarding new staff, visitors, and contractors on lab protocols and safety.
* Collaborating with scientists and technical leads to coordinate service visits and resolve issues.
* Managing lab systems including equipment booking platforms.
* Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
What we’re looking for:
* Proven experience in lab management within a pharma, biotech, or industrial setting.
* Strong knowledge of lab equipment, biosafety, chemical handling, and compliance standards.
* Experience managing infrastructure, service contracts, and suppliers.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and lab management systems.
* Supervisory experience is a plus.
Qualifications:
* A Level (or equivalent) required; further qualifications in a scientific discipline are desirable.
* NEBOSH / IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent certification preferred.
Bonus points for:
* Experience with high-throughput screening, antibody discovery, or molecular biology labs.
* A track record of supporting lab expansions and refurbishments.
* Ability to minimize disruption during maintenance and troubleshoot complex issues.
