Role Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Clinical Scientist to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) and Radiation Protection Adviser within the Health Physics Service. The candidate will contribute to radiation protection services for hospitals across the West and Borders of Scotland, working as an MPE and RPA or becoming one within an agreed period. The postholder will also hold (or work toward) an RWA certificate and undertake duties in non‑ionising radiation protection.
Responsibilities
* Lead AI initiatives in diagnostic radiology, driving development, implementation and oversight of AI technologies to support clinical practice and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to advance safe, effective and innovative AI solutions.
* Provide expert radiation protection advice and support to the Health Physics Service team of twelve physicists and five technologists, delivering diagnostic radiology physics and non‑ionising radiation services to several Health Boards.
* Undertake clinical duties as an MPE and RPA, ensuring compliance with radiation protection regulations and standards.
Qualifications
* Good honours degree in physical sciences and an MSc in medical physics or equivalent experience.
* State‑registered Clinical Scientist.
* Extensive experience as an RPA and an MPE in diagnostic radiology.
* Knowledge of or experience with AI in a healthcare setting, particularly radiology.
