Morson Talent is working with a major player in the Energy Sector who have an immediate requirement for two (2) Construction Delivery Managers – Mechanical to join their site-based team in North Somerset. This is a unique opportunity to be involved with one of Europe’s largest infrastructure construction Projects, as it transitions from civils scope to the start of commissioning. If you have demonstrable experience in the installation of pressurised rotating equipment this could be for you. Roles are offered on a (renewable) contract basis, inside IR35.
Principal Accountabilities
Support the contract partners in their delivery of the works packages to enable efficient delivery of the of their sections of works.
Recommend temporary measures to mitigate against safety and/or quality concerns. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to avoid the cessation of works. This includes but is not limited to review of documents, assurance audits, etc.
Monitor works on site record findings in a construction daily site log, ensuring information is reported up through the organisation to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager. Escalate any issues/concerns via detailed reports.
Proactively communicate/co-ordinate with site functions (H&S, quality, surveillance, commercial, project controls, logistics) and other Construction Delivery Managers to maintain good communication links, and ensure activity is well and timely reported. This will also include regular attendance at pre-start briefings and supporting the delivery of key messages to the contractor’s organisation.
Attend PLOD/PLOW and technical meetings with the contractor, ensuring outputs are recorded and issued to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager.
Undertake and record safety and/or assurance inspections
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent mechanical vocational training and experience.
Experience and knowledge in delivering projects, including construction sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation.
Good understanding of the post holder’s obligations under the CDM Regulations.
Shaft alignment and concentricity
Assembly and disassembly of mechanical components under pressure as per one (or more) of the below:
- Turbine whatever the type: Steam, GAS or Fuel
- Centrifugal compressors
- High power Generator (more than 250MW)
- Large rotating mechanical equipment such as drum filters
- Industrial gearboxes (multiplier/reducer)
Possess excellent organisation and communication skills.
Use of precision measuring instruments (micrometre, dial gauge, calliper, etc.).
Reading and interpreting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams
SMSTS or IOSH qualification holder.
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience of operating in a high security environment is advantageous.
Experience within the Nuclear environment is advantageous but can be offset by experience within power generation new built projects.
Awareness of Lockout/tagout procedures
