We are delighted to offer an apprenticeship in the Radiotherapy department. The role is for an Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographer. Radiotherapy is a rewarding career which requires a highly developed knowledge and professional skill-set to enable you to treat a wide variety of patients, most of whom have a cancer diagnosis. It combines high level technical knowledge and skill with patient care and oncology management.

You will work as part of a team delivering Radiotherapy treatment and ensuring the holistic needs of the patients are met. Therapeutic Radiographers are the only staff group in the NHS whose training specialises in cancer care from the start of the course. The Radiotherapy department at CUH has 7 treatment machines and 2 dedicated CT scanners. During your training and future career, you will work in all areas of the department.

You will have a positive work ethic, be keen to learn and be able to work in a Radiotherapy and wider multi-disciplinary team. You will receive support to gain a wide range of experience and skills, in addition to regular supervision and mentoring. Key Responsibilities

To work within the Radiotherapy department under the Radiotherapy Radiographer Apprenticeship programme. Work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner. As part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will fulfil a key role in providing radiotherapy, care and support to individuals as specified in standard radiotherapy protocols.

You will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient service in the Radiotherapy Department. To perform a range of radiotherapy duties and procedures, as detailed within the apprenticeship programme, within the Radiotherapy department under the supervision of a qualified Therapy Radiographer at all times.


Academic Component

The academic component of the course will be delivered by University of Hertfordshire remotely / online, with a few days a year in person attendance on campus. You will be provided with dedicated time for study to support your development in this role.

Apprentices will study key concepts and knowledge base relevant to Radiotherapy and Oncology. On the job training will involve mentorship and structured progression for the Apprentice using an e-portfolio. Days timetabled at the University are focused on building a community across the Apprentices and practical and simulated learning.


Entry Requirements

* Have the right to abode in the UK
* Meet the course entry requirements Level 2 Qualification: A minimum of 5 GCSEs taken at one sitting including: English language, Mathematics at grade 4 or above (or equivalent qualifications) and Science at grade 4 or above, plus either, 112 - 120 UCAS points from GCE A2/AS levels which will normally include either Science subjects or Mathematics; or BTEC extended Diploma in Applied Science or Health & Social Care with minimum DMM profile; or BTEC Health and Social Care with Distinction/Distinction/Merit profile plus 32 UCAS points from a GCE A2 Life Science subject or Mathematics
* ACCESS to HE in Science or Health Studies (or similar) to include: 45 credits at level 3 of which 24 credits are Distinction including 9 credits from a science subject and 21 credits are Merit; (Applicants must also have an English and Maths GSCE or equivalent); or Foundation Science degree with an average profile of 60% or higher; or Honours degree at 2:2 classification or above in a Science or Health subject; or T level at Merit in Health care Science or Health or Science.
