The Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven, and experienced Despatch Lead to take full and proactive ownership of our despatch area. You will oversee export readiness, and embed best practice across packaging, loading, and documentation processes. This role requires a candidate with proven supervisory experience, confidence in managing export workflows, and a continuous improvement mindset.
This is a critical position within our operation, and we're looking for someone who treats every shipment as business-critical and takes pride in delivering accuracy, safety, and professionalism, right first time, every time.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all despatch activities across UK and international shipments.
* Oversee the safe removal of products from build trolleys and preparation for secure loading and freight forwarding.
* Pick, pack, and label orders accurately from picking sheets, ensuring timely despatch to customers worldwide.
* Ensure packaging consistently meets quality, regulatory, and destination-specific export standards.
* Operate forklifts to safely load and unload vehicles, ensuring secure placement and damage prevention.
* Use tablets and IT systems to maintain systematic records, including photographic evidence for traceability and compliance.
* Identify and implement improvements in packaging methods to enhance protection, reduce waste, and support sustainability goals.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safety-compliant work area at all times.
* Lead daily Lean updates and drive a culture of continuous improvement within the despatch function.
* Liaise cross-functionally with production, quality, and logistics teams to ensure seamless handover and coordination.
* Ensure full compliance with health and safety and export regulations.
Experience & Background
* Minimum 2 years' experience within a despatch, logistics, automotive, or engineered product environment.
* Proven experience managing export despatch processes, including familiarity with export documentation and freight forwarding.
* Demonstrable track record of improving processes and embedding best practice in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience working with Lean or continuous improvement principles is essential.
Skills & Qualifications
* Must hold a valid counterbalance forklift truck licence (immediate use required).
* Strong IT proficiency, including:
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., filters, formulas)
* Competence in Microsoft Office and Sage 50 (or equivalent ERP system)
* Comfortable using tablets and cloud-based systems for digital recordkeeping
* Highly organised, reliable, and proactive, with strong prioritisation and delegation skills.
* Exceptional attention to detail and pride in the presentation of outgoing goods.
* Strong problem-solving ability and a mindset for continuous improvement.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Hours of work
Monday to Thursday - 06:40am - 16:45pm
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £28,000.00 per year
