We are seeking enthusiastic Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine to join our existing ED team. It is an exciting time to join us as the new ED has recently opened; the £8M redevelopment has expanded our footprint and introduced new Paediatric, Major, and CDU areas. There is significant scope for successful candidates to be involved in service re-design and quality improvement projects, shaping the department’s future development and enhancing patient care.
The department offers a CESR program with regular teaching and rotations to ITU and Anaesthesia. Our middle grades are selected with a long-term view of career development and retention, fostering an up-skilled, motivated, and progressive workforce.
Our department features regional accreditation as a Trauma Unit, is established as a regional point of care ultrasound (POCUS) training centre with daily teaching by accredited trainers, and offers multi-professional simulation sessions and dedicated teaching, including our unique CESR program.
We expect the successful candidate to understand principles of clinical audit, clinical governance, and evidence-based medicine, which are actively practiced in the department. Contributions to these areas are supported, and there is an active regional research group. Research interests of the post holder would also be supported.
The post-holder will be encouraged to lead a quality improvement project and an audit.
Responsibilities include receiving, examining, investigating, treating, and referring patients arriving at the Emergency Department. The post-holder should seek help from senior colleagues when uncertain about management. A thorough, up-to-date knowledge of resuscitation techniques is essential, and the post-holder will play a major role in resuscitating critically ill and injured patients.
All relevant documentation must be completed for each patient, including data input for departmental systems and generating GP letters. The post-holder will be encouraged to update their knowledge and skills through courses and meetings. Appraisal will monitor progress and identify training needs.
