Science Technician (required as soon as possible)

32.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday 9.00am - 4.00pm (Negotiable)

Term Time plus Inset

PCD5 (£25,989 pa, pro rata, actual £19,247)

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our dynamic and busy Science Department. We are seeking to appoint a Science Technician to work as part of our large, friendly team providing a range of technical support for Science Lessons.

The successful candidate will:

* Be highly organised with a strong work ethic and an interest in science and the education of our young people.
* Possess a minimum of a science GCSE or equivalent, although an A-Level in a science would be preferable.
* Be expected to prepare equipment, apparatus and chemicals for lessons.
* Be aware of Health and Safety practices in science. Under the direction of the Senior Science Technician you will work to policies and procedures to deliver essential resources to all our students to thrive in this core subject.

Previous experience working in a Science Laboratory and good ICT skills are desirable but not essential as you will receive full training. Hours can be negotiated with the suitable candidate.

Job Purpose

Under the instruction/guidance of senior technician staff, providing specific curricular support to staff and students in the teaching and learning of science that meets Health and Safety standards, including preparation and maintenance of resources.

Main Responsibilities

* Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and productive working environment which is also healthy and safe and reporting all health and safety concerns to the appropriate person in accordance with school policy;
* Undertake clerical and administration tasks relevant to the specific curriculum;
* Timely and accurate preparation of specialist equipment, resources and materials as required by staff and the curriculum, including obtaining materials by local purchase under the direction of senior staff;
* Maintain records relevant to the specific curriculum area;
* Maintenance of specialist equipment, checking for quality and safety and undertaking repairs and modification, reporting other faults to senior staff;
* Maintain a current knowledge of health and safety requirements, including attending courses as required;
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to protect and safeguard students;
* Undertake such other duties connected with the post as may reasonably be requested;
* To share expertise and skills with others;
* To participate in training and other learning activities as required;

Person Specification

Qualification/Training/ Competencies

GCSE Science grade A* - C or equivalent

Good numeracy and literacy skills

Further qualifications of a science based nature would be desirable

Relevant Experience

Working to deadlines and having to be organised

General technical/resource support in an appropriate environment would be desirable

Experience in specific area to post would be desirable

Skills

Time management and organising own workload

Ability to work in a team or alone

Adhering to all Health and Safety legislation

Effective use of ICT

Ability to relate well to students and adults

Other

Show an enthusiastic and positive manner

A commitment to the responsibility of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our young people

Willing to participate in further training and development opportunities
