Highways Apprentice Technician (8202) | Permanent Contract | 37 Hours per Week | Salary: £24,790 to £27,269 per annum (Grade D/E) | Norwich
Applications are invited from individuals interested in joining the Norfolk County Council Highway Apprenticeship Technician programme.
We seek keen, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals to work within the Highways teams. The training programme involves rotation across different teams and environments, so adaptability and a positive attitude towards change are essential.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate good communication skills, be IT literate, eager to learn, and develop within a supportive civil engineering and local government environment. Flexibility and teamwork are crucial, as placements will vary to maximize learning. Additionally, you should be numerate, literate, a good problem solver, detail-oriented, and possess good judgment skills.
Part of the programme includes further education, with a start planned for September 2025. The apprenticeship in Civil Engineering is a Level 3 course, typically delivered via day release at City College Norwich, with the goal of achieving the professional qualification of an Engineering Technician (Eng. Tech). The course duration is normally 3 years, with an additional year for the professional qualification.
Applicants must have access to the course and possess at least 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C (9-4), including:
* English
* Science
* Maths (grades A*-B or 6-9)
To succeed, you should be proactive in self-development, capable of writing training reports, and maintaining your Personal Development Plan. An interest in highways and engineering, enthusiasm, and motivation are essential. The role requires the ability to travel to locations not accessible by public transport.
