Band 6 CT Radiographer

The post holder will train and work in the CT department providing a high-quality CT scanning service. The role involves supporting and giving advice to Radiographers whilst working closely alongside the Lead CT Radiographers and Modality and Site Lead Radiographers.

The post holder will take an active role in radiology service improvement and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a designated CT scanning area within Imaging.

There is a need to acquire competence in all aspects of CT scanning. An important part of the role will involve intravenous cannulation for injections of iodinated contrast and point of care testing for renal function.

There will be a requirement to participate in the 24-hour emergency CT service working shift patterns including on call.

The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

It is essential the successful candidate is able to maintain imaging records, both paper based and in computerised systems with participation in audit and research as required.

The post holder will be responsible for supervision and teaching of Radiographers, Radiology assistants, Support Staff and Student Radiographers. Training and support will be provided.

Statutory and mandatory training together with continued professional development must be kept up to date.

The successful candidate is expected to undertake development opportunities.

There may be opportunities for the successful applicant to train in MRI.


Main duties of the job

To undertake unsupervised, and be accountable for, CT imaging examinations

To perform peripheral venous cannulation and intravenous injections for the administration of radiographic contrast media whilst maintaining the highest level of infection control practice.

Ensure that all radiation protection measures are observed for self, patients, and other members of staff in line with recommendations laid down in the local rules in line with IRR 2017 and the current IR (ME) R legislation.

To participate in the Out-of-Hours, on-call, weekday, weekend and bank holiday service as required

To assess clinical information against the Referral and Justification Protocols in line with their role as Operator and take appropriate action as required.

To be able to assess CT images, consult a Radiologist when appropriate and advise Radiographers where repeat imaging or further Imaging may be required.

To record data concerning the patients Imaging examination in line with current IR(ME)R legislation and factors relating to the patients' clinical condition

To communicate clearly and openly with colleagues and patients clinical and organisational issues. To deal with complaints and occasionally be subject to verbal abuse.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* HCPC registration
* D.C.R. (R) or BSc Radiography S.R.R.
* Documented experience in diagnostic imaging.
* Evidence of CPD and reflective practice, link grade competencies
* Evidence of short specialist/leadership courses/education.


Experience

* Relevant clinical experience in general radiography
* Experience in the specialised CT imaging modality
* Advanced knowledge and experience of CT scanning techniques
