We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Plymouth to assist with the appointment of a Liability Claims Officer, on a 6.5-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £15.06 - £19.79 per hour

Summary:

The role involves handling public liability claims received from members of the public or their legal representatives, relating to personal injury and/or property damage.

You will be responsible for investigating claims, assessing liability, and managing cases from initial receipt through to resolution, including liaison with internal departments and external solicitors.

Responsibilities:

* Investigate and process public liability claims in line with legal and procedural requirements.
* Assess and make decisions on legal liability and quantum.
* Manage claims from initial receipt through to conclusion, including litigated cases.
* Liaise with Council service departments to obtain evidence and prepare case files.
* Work closely with external solicitors where claims are subject to litigation.
* Ensure compliance with Civil Procedure Rules and Data Protection legislation.
* Maintain accurate case records and provide clear updates to stakeholders.
* Communicate complex and sometimes contentious information professionally and sensitively.

Qualifications:

* Educated to A-level standard or equivalent (or relevant professional experience).

Experience:

* Recent experience working in an insurance or claims handling role.
* Experience investigating and processing public liability claims.
* Experience liaising with solicitors and external organisations.
* Experience working in a pressurised environment with competing deadlines.

Essential Requirements:

* Good working knowledge of legal liability principles and practice.
* Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
* Understanding of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
* Strong ability to assess evidence and make sound decisions on liability.
* Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to convey complex or contentious information clearly and sensitively.
* Proficient user of Microsoft Office and other PC-based applications.
