The Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our busy learning and teaching professional support service in the School of Biomedical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences. You will work as part of a professional support team providing comprehensive administrative support to this highly rated School with a diverse portfolio of teaching programmes.

You will undertake a wide range of administrative work in support of the School Manager, Deputy School Manager and the Learning and Teaching Team Lead. You will be responsible for general duties including; reception, purchasing, answering student queries and attendance monitoring.

You should have good organisational and interpersonal skills; be able to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, be a team player, together with the ability to use your own initiative and to prioritise your workload. Flexibility, discretion, tact and diplomacy are a must.

Key Responsibilities

1. To provide administrative support to the learning and teaching function of the School across the full student lifecycle (from registration, through progression to completion)
2. Responsible for making amendments to learning and teaching documents as requested by members of the School’s Learning and Teaching support team
3. Responsible for making updates to appropriate University systems as requested by members of the School’s Learning and Teaching support team. In addition, update teaching materials on University systems as requested, and distributing materials to staff and students
4. Under guidance, to check and update student data using University systems, including ensuring students are appropriately registered for modules as required
5. Support the Learning & Teaching Team Leader with student attendance monitoring administration as requested
6. To support the receipt and collation of assessment materials from academic colleagues, keeping a record of work sent out for marking and chasing it for return. Supporting the data entry of marks relevant University systems
7. To support the organization of practical assessments and assist in setting up examination venues
8. To support the administration of processes relating to adjustments required for students with wellbeing issues or personal extenuating circumstances
9. To provide support for the arrangement of student placements and maintaining accurate records
10. To provide support for the allocation of research projects to students
11. To support the secretary to meetings, helping with agenda preparation and circulation
12. To provide support for the School’s Admissions where required; this can be significant for some programmes
13. Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required. This includes some flexibility in working hours and may include occasional weekend working (in the region of two Saturdays per year)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

14. Working knowledge of relevant systems equipment, processes and procedures including standard software packages
15. Appreciation of the standards for the conduct and output of the role
16. Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing
17. Numeracy skills
18. Good I.T. skills, i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages
19. Familiarity with work priorities and those of colleagues
20. Basic understanding of relevant policies and procedures, as they affect the role
21. Ability to apply relevant health and safety and other University policies and procedures

Qualifications

56. Grades A-C in English Language and Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent) or vocational qualifications or relevant work experience in the unit or a comparable setting
