Job Title: Analytical Scientist Key Responsibilities & Duties Supervise daily laboratory operations and provide technical guidance to laboratory technicians. Serve as the primary point of contact for laboratory technicians in the absence of the Laboratory Manager or Deputy Laboratory Manager. Receive, book, and prepare a variety of biological samples, including urine, swabs, and blood. Operate and maintain high-throughput serological and molecular analysers. Perform manual confirmatory assays where required. Review, release and report test results. Conduct method validation, verification, and troubleshooting of analytical processes. Identify, log, resolve, and report problem samples and analytical issues. Ensure full compliance with the laboratory’s Quality Management System and ISO 15189 accreditation standards. Actively participate in UKAS assessment visits. Participate in External Quality Assessment (EQA) and Internal Quality Assessment (IQA) programs. Maintain comprehensive laboratory records, including quality control logs, equipment maintenance records, and CAPA documentation. Perform acceptance testing for new equipment, reagents, and consumables; ensure ongoing equipment calibration, mapping, and functionality. Promote and uphold Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) to ensure accuracy and precision in all activities. Comply with all laboratory policies, including those related to data protection, confidentiality, waste management, and conduct. Manage and validate stock levels; receive and validate deliveries of laboratory consumables and reagents. Deliver training to laboratory personnel within area(s) of expertise. Ensure completion and documentation of all scheduled maintenance, calibration, and servicing tasks. Contribute to general laboratory upkeep, including analyser maintenance, waste disposal, and housekeeping. Handle and dispose of confidential and hazardous waste safely and in accordance with regulations. Skills and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or a related field; and equivalent practical experience. Previous laboratory experience, preferably within a pharmaceutical, clinical, or diagnostic environment. Proficient in handling, processing, and preparing biological specimens. Experienced in operating laboratory instrumentation and recording technical data accurately. Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems and familiarity with ISO 15189 standards. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing precise, high-quality work. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks under time constraints. Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to train and support junior staff.
