Assistant Development Manager – Vistry Group
Join Vistry Group’s development team in Brentwood, East London, supporting the Land & Development Managers across the pre‑construction phases of development projects. You will assist the Development Manager in progressing potential new developments, dealing with technical, legal, planning and financial hurdles to enable budget sign‑off and site start.
Responsibilities
* Support the Regional Development Director and senior Development team members in efficient operation of the Development function.
* Assist the pre‑construction process from handover to completion, ensuring all legal, financial, planning and governance requirements are met.
* Help secure planning consent and internal governance approvals.
* Contribute to financial viability management, maintaining and controlling development budgets.
* Assist in feasibility appraisals, complex legal documentation reviews, and preparation of land and build contracts.
* Coordinate consultant appointments, collateral warranties, and document approvals.
* Complete paperwork and reports to gain internal approvals and audit compliance.
* Order and manage supporting information (surveys, reports, assessments) for the planning process.
* Approve invoices via company financial systems.
* Liaise with the Legal, Solicitor and Technical departments to ensure timely availability of documentation such as conveyance plans, Section 38/104 agreements, open‑space agreements, service wayleaves/easements and freehold transfer contracts.
* Carry out duties in compliance with ISO9001 accreditation and support the Group Environmental Policy.
* Manage several small projects under the Development Manager’s guidance for development and career progression.

Requirements

* Minimum A‑level standard or equivalent qualifications, or demonstrable relevant experience.
* Proficiency in MS Office programmes (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* A keen interest in Development or pre‑construction activities.
* Good geographic knowledge of the local area.
* Organised, methodical and detail‑oriented.
* Highly numerate, able to undertake feasibility appraisals.
* Highly literate, able to understand and interpret complex legal documentation.
* Initiative, decision‑making skills, and a sense of responsibility.
* Ability to follow and lead change‑management programmes.
