Job Summary as Metal Worker / Burner:
Responsible for flame straightening and correcting distortions in metal components using controlled heat application. Using oxy-acetylene or similar torches to straighten plates, welded parts, and structural shapes; ensuring conformance to engineering specifications.
Details of the role as Metal Worker / Burner:
* Hours: Monday to Wednesday 07:00 to 17:00, Thursday 07:00 to 16:30. Overtime available on Friday paid at time and a half.
* Hourly Rate: £14.63
* Status: Temp to Perm at 26 weeks, following a probationary period.
Key Responsibilities as Metal Worker / Burner:
* Choose the correct torch tips and settings based on material type, thickness, and required temperature.
* Connect and operate oxy-fuel equipment safely, adjusting flame characteristics for precision heating.
* Apply heat to metal surfaces to induce thermal expansion and contraction for straightening.
* Use measuring and inspection tools; verify alignment with straightedges, templates, or gauges.
* Perform minor mechanical and metal work corrections (e.g., hammering out bulges/bends).
* Maintain equipment and adhere to safety protocols during thermal operations.
* Collaborate with Fabricators, Welders, Platers, and other Engineers to support fabrication and repair workflows.
Skills & Qualifications as Metal Worker / Burner:
* Proficiency in oxy-acetylene torch operation.
* Understanding of material behaviour under heat (especially steel, stainless, and aluminium).
* Ability to read technical drawings and follow straightening procedures.
* Experience in structural fabrication is a plus.
* Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
* Experience in furnace or hot steel processing backgrounds is ideal.
* Previous use of oxy torches for bending, arc airing, gauging, burning, boiler making, bending, peening, linishing steels, or other hot steel repairs.
