â¢\tPrepare and maintain the clinical environment, including the equipment\nâ¢\tCarry out infection prevention and control procedures to prevent physical, chemical and microbiological contamination in the surgery or laboratory\nâ¢\tRecord dental charting and oral tissue assessment carried out by other registrants\nâ¢\tPrepare, mix and handle dental bio-materials\nâ¢\tAssist the dentist/hygienist/therapist in all clinical procedures, providing chairside assistance\nâ¢\tKeep full, accurate and contemporaneous patient records\nâ¢\tPrepare equipment, materials and patients for dental radiography\nâ¢\tProcess dental radiographs \nâ¢\tMonitor, support and reassure patients\nâ¢\tGive appropriate patient advice \nâ¢\tSupport the patient and their colleagues if there is a medical emergency\nâ¢\tMake appropriate referrals to other health professionals\nâ¢\tWorking to a professional code of ethics and keeping up to date with recent developments within the industry\nâ¢\tGreet and assist patients warmly and professionally\nâ¢\tAnswer and manage incoming calls\nâ¢\tDeal with practice e-mail, in conjunction with the practice owner\nâ¢\tRequest reviews from patients post examination/treatment\nâ¢\tRegister new patients according to established practice protocols\nâ¢\tAssist patients to complete all necessary forms and documentation \nâ¢\tVerify and update patient information\nâ¢\tInform patients of dental office procedures and policy\nâ¢\tMove patients through appointments as scheduled\nâ¢\tEnter all relevant patient information into data system\nâ¢\tMaintain and manage patient records in compliance with privacy and security regulations\nâ¢\tSchedule patient appointments\nâ¢\tConfirm upcoming appointments and recalls according to practice protocol\nâ¢\tCheck daily appointment schedule\nâ¢\tArrange patient files for next day appointments\nâ¢\tFill in cancellations and no-shows and collect FTA/SNC charge\nâ¢\tOrganise referrals to other medical specialists\nâ¢\tPrepare claim forms for dental insurance\nâ¢\tSafeguard patient privacy and confidentiality\nâ¢\tKeep the practice leaflet and other patient communications up to date\nâ¢\tDispatch, collect and record lab work appropriately\nâ¢\tCollect and receipt payments from patients at time of treatment\nâ¢\tInform patients of financial treatment plan options\nâ¢\tArrange payment schedule with patients\nâ¢\tSort and distribute incoming and outgoing post\nâ¢\tPost all necessary letters and deal with patientâs deregistration paperwork\nâ¢\tUpdate patient education materials\nâ¢\tPrepare and mail billing statements\nâ¢\tFile all invoices and forward all invoices necessary for payment to the practice owner\nâ¢\tTake responsibility for all cash transactions and end of day cashing up\nâ¢\tEnsure reception receipts are balanced daily and are accurate\nâ¢\tMaintain a professional reception area\nâ¢\tEnsure the reception is tidy and presentable at all times\n To progress to be a experienced dental nurse. â¢\tPrepare and maintain the clinical environment, including the equipment\nâ¢\tCarry out infection prevention and control procedures to prevent physical, chemical and microbiological contamination in the surgery or laboratory\nâ¢\tRecord dental charting and oral tissue assessment carried out by other registrants\nâ¢\tPrepare, mix and handle dental bio-materials\nâ¢\tAssist the dentist/hygienist/therapist in all clinical procedures, providing chairside assistance Dental nurses must either be registered or in training. This means that youâll be one of the following: \n\nEmployed and enrolled or waiting to start on a recognised programme that will lead to GDC registration. \nStudying on a recognised programme that leads directly to GDC registration. \nAs a trainee dental nurse, you must complete a recognised training programme that leads to registration with the GDC. Training providers can advise on specific programme entry requirements. \n\nWith a Modern Apprenticeship, you'll get the training and experience you need to become a dental nurse and the following professionally recognised qualifications: \n\nSVQ in Dental Nursing at SCQF level 7 \nPDA in Dental Nursing at SCQF level 7 \nYouâll also evidence the 5 SQA Core Skills at SCQF level 5. \n\nWhen you complete the SVQ and PDA in Dental Nursing qualifications, youâll be ready to register with the GDC.
