Role: Operational Lead Technician (NIGHTS)
Location: Coventry
Hours: 12 hour shifts, (3 On - 3 Off)
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (DOE)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operational Lead Technician to join a fast-paced operational environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for maintaining site equipment, driving operational efficiency, minimising downtime, and supporting the day-to-day running of the wash operation.
Working closely with the Shift Supervisor and Operations team, the successful candidate will lead a small team of Machine Minders while ensuring equipment reliability, safety compliance, quality standards, and productivity targets are consistently achieved.
Duties of an Operational Lead Technician:
1. Ensure the efficient and safe operation of production and tray washing equipment
2. Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance to minimise equipment downtime
3. Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults
4. Take ownership of equipment reliability and asset performance
5. Record maintenance activities and downtime accurately using maintenance management systems
6. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
7. Lead, coach and develop Machine Minders to improve team performance
8. Support Shift Supervisors with the planning and running of production operations
9. Monitor productivity, quality and performance targets
10. Carry out quality control checks and ensure compliance with operational procedures
11. Enforce Health & Safety standards, including PPE, COSHH and site safety requirements
12. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring appropriate reporting and corrective actions
13. Manage labour allocation and support succession planning within the team
14. Liaise with contractors, suppliers and service providers when required
15. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to increase efficiency, safety and quality
16. Provide supervisory cover when required
What we would like from you:
17. Minimum 5 years' experience within an Engineering or Maintenance environment
18. Experience working within an automated manufacturing, production, FMCG or industrial setting
19. Strong electrical and/or mechanical maintenance background
20. Experience leading, motivating and developing teams
21. Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills
22. Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
23. Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices and compliance requirements
24. Experience working towards productivity, quality and operational performance targets
Essential Qualifications:
25. GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
26. Electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC or equivalent
27. and/or Mechanical qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC or equivalent
28. IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
29. HACCP Level 2
Desirable Qualifications:
30. Engineering HNC/HND or Degree
31. Apprenticeship trained
32. NEBOSH qualification
33. HACCP Level 3
34. Welding and fabrication experience
