Production Planner
Global Grade: 9
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Production Planner is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing production schedules for the production lines, including but not limited to the Hitachi 1600 Rail PowerPack, Boxer 199 series production, 2000/4000 series, and any ad hoc requirements requested by the Business Units at Rolls-Royce Solutions UK. This role ensures that production processes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet quality standards, while coordinating with multiple departments to maintain alignment with business objectives. The position requires a strategic and analytical approach to ensure production capacity meets demand over both short- and long-term horizons.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning and Scheduling
* Develop and maintain detailed production schedules, ensuring optimal resource allocation and efficient workflow.
* Plan and organize production workflows for one or multiple products while addressing capacity constraints and customer requirements including demand forecast and adherence to plan.
* Liaise and communicate with customers, aligning both input deliveries and output collection requirements.
* Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Parts & Logistics, and Procurement teams to align production plans with material availability and customer delivery timelines.
* Analyse and resolve scheduling conflicts to minimize delays and maximize throughput.
Resource Planning, Management, and Forecasting
* Implement and maintain resource production plans to meet output demands.
* Monitor resource capacity and availability and implement adjustments accordingly.
* Present detailed performance and capacity reports to management, highlighting trends and actionable insights.
Coordination and Communication
* Adjust production plans based on the availability and delivery of materials and components.
* Coordinate with Production teams to ensure smooth operations and adherence to the production plan.
* Communicate production goals, changes, and updates effectively to all stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
* Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.
* Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in production processes and recommend solutions.
* Document and share best practices to drive consistency and process improvements.
Monitoring and Reporting
* Track and report production performance metrics, including output volume, defect rates, and schedule adherence.
* Maintain accurate records of production data and generate detailed status and performance reports.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting
* Detect and resolve production issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and prevent recurring challenges.
Safety and Compliance
* Ensure all production activities comply with health and safety regulations.
* Promote a safe working environment and report any safety concerns to management.
Qualifications and Experience
Proven experience in production planning or a related role, preferably in manufacturing or industries related to rail, marine, or governmental applications. Strong understanding of production processes, capacity planning, and resource allocation.
Personality / Job Skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments. Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel. Familiarity with health and safety practices and regulations. A proactive mindset focused on achieving operational excellence.
Literacy and Numeracy
Fluent in written and spoken English. Competent in composing clear and professional business reports and presentations.
