An opportunity has arisen within the Trust to join the Oral and Maxillofacial (OMFS) Department from September 2025 until September 2026 on a fixed-term contract as a Trust Doctor.
The Department performs a full range of oral and facial surgeries, including malignancy, microvascular surgery, facial deformity, trauma, dermatology, and dentoalveolar procedures. There will be a requirement to cross-cover out of hours with ENT colleagues.
Applicants should possess a BDS or equivalent dental qualification recognized by the GDC and hold full GDC registration.
Interviews will be held on Friday, 23rd May.
Main duties of the job
The post is based at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The department covers elective and 'on-call' commitments to hospitals south of the Tyne, including Shotley Bridge, South Tyneside, and University Hospital of North Durham.
Occasionally, it may be necessary to visit surrounding hospitals for surgical lists or emergencies.
The clinical work includes:
* Theatre lists
* Ward work for pre- and post-operative care
* Medical examination of patients
* Attending to emergency patients at A&E in Sunderland
* Dentoalveolar and minor oral surgery
* On-call cover, including cross-cover with ENT during out-of-hours on a joint rota
