The Role
The school is seeking a committed, calm, and proactive Behaviour Mentor to work closely with students who require additional behavioural, emotional, or social support. This role sits at the heart of the school’s pastoral system, focusing on supporting individuals, preventing escalation, and helping students develop the skills required for positive engagement in school life.
You will work 1:1 with students, deliver small-group interventions, run behaviour reflection sessions, support reintegration meetings, and assist with crisis de-escalation where needed. The role requires resilience, excellent communication skills, strong empathy, and a solutions-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing 1:1 mentoring for students with behavioural or emotional needs
• Supporting restorative conversations and conflict resolution
• Monitoring student conduct, attendance, punctuality, and engagement
• Assisting with de-escalation and crisis intervention
• Working closely with Heads of Year and pastoral/safeguarding teams
• Delivering small-group sessions on emotional regulation, behaviour strategies, and resilience
• Supporting reintegration following suspensions or prolonged absence
• Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies
• Maintaining accurate pastoral records and behaviour logs
• Supporting supervision during transitions, break, and lunchtime
• Contributing to whole-school behaviour initiatives
Person Specification
• Experience working with young people in a pastoral, youth work, or behavioural role
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Calm, professional manner and strong emotional intelligence
• Ability to build trust quickly and maintain positive relationships
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and behaviour policies
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations with discretion
• Resilient, reflective, and committed to the wellbeing of young people
