About the job
If you love problem-solving and have an analytical mind with a good geographic knowledge, a career in Train Planning could be perfect for you. In the Train Planning function, you will be putting into practice the knowledge, skills and behaviours that underpin your Apprenticeship learning experience that will lead to an industry-accredited qualification.
This role assists in providing the Train Planning team with support and enhanced resource in the compilation and documentation of efficient and effective timetables and associated rolling stock and train crew resource plans. This apprenticeship provides the opportunity to gain experience and acquire skills and knowledge in all technical aspects of the train planning process; its associated techniques and systems. You will also gain a working appreciation of how the technical skills of train planning and the plans they generate influence operations, performance, customer service, resourcing, commercial and other business requirements.
Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3
Please note, you must be between the ages of 16 - 18 at the commencement of employment to beconsidered for this young talent apprenticeship.
You'll need:
* A desire to pursue a career in the railway industry.
* Flexibility – this apprenticeship may involve early or late shifts and travel to other areas on our network.
* Excellent communication, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
* Proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving, with a keen eye for detail.
* Willingness to undergo training and development to enhance skills and knowledge in the role.
* A dedication to upholding the company's values and delivering exceptional service to customers
As a minimum, you will need to have:
* GCSE grade 4 or above in English and maths
About the location
South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport.

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days

Additional Information
Your assigned Professional Coach will deliver training sessions, in person or online, supporting you 1:1 to gain new knowledge, skills and behaviours required for successful completion of your apprenticeship. You will complete various assessments which will demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the subject and form part of your portfolio. At the start of the programme your Professional Coach will work with you to create an Individual Learning Plan outlining the work that you will need to complete to evidence your learning.
