Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) - Daytime AMHP Service

Join our dynamic and inclusive team as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in locations across Exeter, North Devon, South Devon, East & Mid Devon.

We are seeking passionate and committed AMHPs to join our vibrant and progressive Daytime AMHP Service within Devon, part of the Devon Partnership NHS Trust. These opportunities are available across multiple areas of Devon and offer the chance to work within a nationally recognized service that values collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.

This role is open to registered social workers, occupational therapists, mental health nurses, or chartered psychologists who are currently approved (or eligible for approval) to practice as an AMHP. Candidates must have the appropriate professional registration and provide a registration number with their application. Evidence of AMHP qualification and required post-qualifying AMHP refresher training must be provided as part of the application.

Main duties of the job

The role of daytime AMHPs within Devon County Council has evolved to meet the changing landscape of mental health services. AMHPs are based across various locations but are expected to work flexibly and travel as needed to support service delivery. We offer hybrid working options, supporting a balance of home-based and office-based practice, aligned with service needs and professional development.

AMHPs collaborate proactively with internal and external partners, including crisis teams, inpatient wards, community mental health teams, police, CAMHS, and other agencies, to ensure a timely and appropriate legal response for individuals at risk of detention or restriction under the Mental Health Act.

In addition to frontline duties, AMHPs manage a small caseload of social supervision patients, supporting individuals and their treatment teams with the management of mental health orders.

About us

We are committed to your continuous professional development, providing excellent support and supervision, with regular opportunities for reflection and discussion with line managers and peers.

We offer 26 days of annual leave plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 31 days after 5 years of service. NHS continuous service is recognized for contractual leave, sick pay, and maternity/adoption/paternity entitlements (within DCC terms and conditions).

Flexible working options include part-time hours, flexitime, compressed hours, and homeworking, subject to role requirements and further discussion at interview.

We offer a generous Local Government Pension Scheme.

Devon is an attractive place to live and work, with excellent schools, vibrant cities, scenic coastlines, and countryside. Living and working in Devon as an AMHP is highly appealing.
