If you are an excellent communicator with a passion for research, an eye for detail, and the skills to coordinate a national research study within the often busy and sometimes challenging maternity environment, then this is the job for you! You will have the opportunity to develop your research skills within a supportive environment working on The Generation Study. You will be working collaboratively within a dynamic midwifery research team and directly with the UHS population of pregnant women and people.
We are recruiting one Clinical Research Practitioner at each of our four sites at UHS: The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, Worthing Hospital, and St. Richard's Hospital in Chichester.

Main duties of the job
The role will primarily involve working closely with UHS pregnant women and people on the national Generation Study at one of our four sites, and will include:
* contributing to the study setup process
* reading, assimilating, understanding, and working to the Generation Study protocol
* setting up, managing, and running the study database
* sharing information, explaining, discussing, and answering questions about the Generation Study with pregnant women, people, and their families as appropriate
* receiving informed consent from potential participants
* coordinating study processes on labour ward and in the community
* occasionally taking cord blood or supporting labour ward staff to do so
* placing service users and their well-being at the center of every process
* careful diary management to follow up with participants effectively
* working collaboratively with UHS maternity staff members
* involving all staff in the study process and building strong workplace relationships
* supporting staff to understand the study and being a constant source of advice and support to ensure clinical processes are followed safely and effectively
* working effectively with other staff members (including clinical research practitioners, midwives, obstetricians, and support staff)
* some cross-site work as required

Job responsibilities
The post holder will assist with the delivery of The Generation Study and manage and coordinate other maternity research studies as required under the indirect supervision of a registered healthcare practitioner.
They will support the day-to-day management of an allocated portfolio of studies, including successful recruitment and retention of participants, strict protocol adherence, data collection, and organization of relevant tests and procedures. A good background in general clinical knowledge is essential to provide research participants with excellent clinical care. Flexibility and adaptability are required to respond to service needs and work across different clinical specialties as needed. The post holder will also promote research within Trust departments and support colleagues and local investigators to deliver high-quality research activities that support participant care.
While primarily working on the Generation Study, the post holder may also work across other maternity research studies and support various clinical specialties depending on the portfolio's dynamic nature and service needs. They will understand the maternity environment and its challenges and work collaboratively with maternity staff in busy environments, being sensitive to clients who may have vulnerabilities or face complex clinical and psychological issues.
The post holder will collaborate with other research team members to support clinical trial progress, maintain accurate project records, and develop professional relationships across organizations, including non-commercial bodies and pharmaceutical sponsors, to promote high-quality clinical research within UHS.
Proactive support for managing a portfolio of clinical trials to achieve results and drive initiatives forward in line with organizational strategies and health trends is essential.
Although based at one site, the post will involve working with and occasionally at other sites and traveling as required.
Support R&D senior staff in implementing trust policies, procedures, research governance, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Person Specification
* Experience in maternity or early years services
* Effective and considerate communication with patients and relatives
* Registered Clinical Research Practitioner with hospital department GCP certification
* Experience in consent taking and specialty portfolio experience
