We partner with Tesco Bank to support their contingent recruitment processes. Acting as an extension of their recruitment teams, we connect them with skilled interim and temporary professionals, fostering workplaces where everyone can contribute and succeed.
On behalf of Tesco Bank, AMS are now looking for an Employee Relations & Advisory Consultant based in Edinburgh/Glasgow (hybrid) for an initial 3‑month contract.
Purpose Of The Role
As an Employee Relations & Advisory Consultant, you will deliver expert guidance across the full spectrum of employee relations, policy, advisory, and union matters. You will support managers in handling complex cases, ensure consistent and compliant HR practices, strengthen policy governance, and contribute to a positive colleague experience. The role plays a key part in maintaining fair processes, improving data accuracy, supporting effective decision‑making, and fostering constructive relationships across the business and with employee representatives.
What You’ll Do
* Provide expert advice and guidance to managers on a wide range of employee relations cases, including absence, conduct, and performance.
* Manage and support formal ER hearings, ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant processes.
* Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and employee representatives, including unions and works councils.
* Interpret and apply HR policies, procedures, and employment regulations to guide decision‑making.
* Develop, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
* Handle complex HR data processing and support improvements in reporting, data quality, and documentation.
* Prepare reports, documentation, and briefing papers to support case management and consultations.
* Support small‑scale project work within the People Operations and Employee Relations teams.
* Coach and empower line managers to strengthen ER capability and ensure issues are managed confidently and proactively.
The Skills You’ll Need

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey advice clearly and professionally to a range of stakeholders.
* Solid understanding of HR policies, procedures, employment law, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply them in real situations.
* Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise workload effectively, managing multiple cases and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
* Skilled in analysing data from various sources to identify trends, draw conclusions, and make sound recommendations.
* Confidence in preparing clear reports, documentation, and briefing papers to support ER cases and consultations.
* Competence in HR data management, including data accuracy, reporting, and improving admin processes.
* Strong decision‑making skills with the ability to handle complex ER issues using established frameworks and precedents.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with managers, colleagues, and union representatives.
* Ability to coach and guide line managers to handle people issues confidently and compliantly.
* Tech‑savvy with strong MS Office skills and the ability to quickly learn and adopt HR systems and digital tools.
