This hospital-based Cleaning Services Manager role within the Barts Health Soft FM Directorate requires an experienced facilities professional to lead the delivery of high-quality healthcare cleaning and hygiene services at Whipps Cross University Hospital.
Reporting to the Senior Cleaning Manager, the post holder will provide operational leadership for day-to-day cleaning services, including oversight of ancillary services delivered by specialist contractors.
The role is responsible for implementing and managing effective cleaning service delivery, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, SLAs, KPIs, SOPs and Critical Success Factors, alongside Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
All services must align with the NHS National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025 (NSOC) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) requirements, ensuring safe, high-performing environments.
Success will be achieved through leading service improvement and change initiatives, using modern equipment, digital tools and innovative methods to enhance quality, efficiency and governance.
The post holder will work closely with clinical teams, IPC, Estates and the Compliance and Quality Assurance Audit Team (CQAAT) to maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety and patient experience across the hospital.
Main duties of the job
Manage day-to-day delivery of cleaning and hygiene services across WXH or which site you are based, including in-house and specialist contracted services such as waste, pest control, window cleaning, consumables and deep cleaning. Ensure full compliance with NSOC 2025, IPC policy and CQC Regulation 15 standards.
Work with the CQAAT team to ensure audit compliance and timely rectification of issues. Use patient feedback and PLACE outcomes to drive continuous improvement and enhance service quality.
Lead cleaning teams through supervisors, ensuring delivery against SLAs, KPIs and SOPs. Coordinate team activity, deliver briefings and maintain high standards of performance, safety and patient experience. Support service improvement through modern methods, digital tools and efficient operating models aligned to patient flow and operational demand.
Performance, finance and workforce
Monitor service performance, investigate issues via Datix and identify cost improvement opportunities. Support budget management, workforce planning and use of HealthRoster to optimise staffing and control costs. Lead recruitment, training and development, ensuring teams are skilled, engaged and compliant. Promote wellbeing, inclusion and succession planning.
Governance, safety and innovation
Ensure compliance with Trust governance, health and safety and ZERO HARM principles. Escalate risks appropriately and support mitigation plans. Work with digital and systems teams to drive innovation, including CAFM, data analysis and emerging technologies to improve service delivery.
Deputise for the Senior Cleaning Manager and support continuous improvement across services.
