Job Summary As a Day Fitter at Arriva plc, you will be responsible for the routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of our bus fleet, ensuring their safety, reliability, and operational readiness. Salary: £19.27 Per Hour Hours: Monday to Friday, Days, 38 hours per week Location: Arriva St Helens Job Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including vehicle inspections, oil changes, and component lubrication. Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults on a diverse range of bus models. Carry out repairs and replacements of various vehicle components, such as engines, gearboxes, braking systems, and suspension units. Conduct pre-MOT inspections and prepare vehicles for regulatory testing, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and environmental standards. Utilize diagnostic equipment and technical manuals to identify and resolve complex issues efficiently. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and time taken. Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others. Collaborate effectively with other team members, including fellow fitters, supervisors, and operational staff. Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay updated with new vehicle technologies and repair techniques. Job Qualifications Proven experience as a vehicle technician or fitter, preferably within the bus, coach, or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) industry. Recognized qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, City & Guilds). Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a solid understanding of vehicle mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Full UK driving license, with a PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) license desirable, or a willingness to obtain one. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a strong work ethic. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and occasional overtime, as required by operational demands.
