Adept:us is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Bristol-based client in the aerospace sector. Following the award of several major projects, our client is looking to engage a contractor on a short-term, three-month basis.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the mechanical design of a pump housing assembly. The role involves developing and refining designs for a rotating machinery application, ensuring suitability for manufacture and production.
This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone confident working independently and progressing an existing concept through detailed design and production release.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and refine the mechanical design of a pump housing and associated components.
* Apply sound engineering principles to rotating machinery design.
* Design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
* Produce accurate 2D manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T.
* Create and manage 3D models and detailed drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
* Select suitable materials and surface finishes.
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to support production.
* Review and improve existing designs for performance, durability and manufacturability.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within rotating machinery or pump systems.
* Strong understanding of shafts, seals, bearings, housings and related components.
* Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (3D modelling and 2D drawing production essential).
* Experience with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, casting and fabrication.
* Strong understanding of tolerancing, fits and surface finishes.
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of design deliverables.
Desirable:
* Experience in aerospace, automotive or high-performance machinery.
* Knowledge of sealing systems and lubrication design.
* Experience supporting products from prototype through to production.
