We are working with a leading engineering and infrastructure contractor that is looking to strengthen its Engineering team with the addition of a Senior Design Manager. This is a permanent role based in Belfast, with flexible hybrid working options available.
In this role, you’ll oversee the design stages of multiple infrastructure projects, ensuring that innovative, compliant, and cost-effective solutions are delivered on time and to the highest quality. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, project stakeholders, and clients to guide technical delivery from concept through to construction support.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead and manage the design process for a range of infrastructure or utility projects, coordinating with both in-house teams and external collaborators.
* Prioritise health, safety, and compliance throughout all design activities, ensuring risks are managed and clearly communicated.
* Monitor design budgets and resources, ensuring efficient use of time and costs while meeting project deadlines.
* Develop and maintain project-specific design plans, reports, and documentation to track progress and ensure alignment with project goals.
* Provide expert input during technical meetings and decision-making sessions across the project lifecycle.
* Support the construction and commissioning phases with design insight and technical assurance.
* Ensure all outputs meet industry standards, internal procedures, and client requirements.
* Promote sustainable design practices, including reducing environmental impact and carbon emissions.
* Build effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
Required
* A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional body.
* Strong background in managing multi-disciplinary designs within a design and build environment.
* Proven ability to lead teams and manage design delivery across complex projects.
* Understanding of health and safety regulations and CDM compliance within engineering design.
* Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or utility-related projects.
* Strong commercial awareness and understanding of design cost control.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
Desirable
* APM Project Management Qualification (or working towards).
* Background in water, wastewater, or environmental infrastructure projects.
* Experience working with geographically dispersed teams or within global organisations.
* Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital design tools.
* A collaborative mindset and openness to innovation in design and delivery.
