Are you excited about contributing your technical expertise to the Business Development Unit (BDU) Hot Water & Solar Solutions? There is a new opportunity within our satellite centre based in Preston, UK, for an established Product Development Engineer to join our team. You will play an integral role in developing new products or improving existing ones.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, appliance engineers, product managers, and marketing, to ensure user-focused product definitions aligned with our group standards and core values.
Role Responsibilities
1. Plan tests based on detailed procedures, understand instruments, required data, and resources.
2. Prepare and validate test reports.
3. Promote a safe working culture and maintain zero LTIs within the workshop and testing environment.
4. Assist in generating and translating product ECRs into Project Design Approvals, satisfying product specifications and business requirements.
5. Research and develop new products/concepts, ensuring compliance with safety, performance standards, and legislative approvals within set time, cost, and specifications.
6. Assist in preparing research, test, and development programs to validate product design.
7. Plan and prioritize workload to meet product support timescales and departmental plans.
8. Maintain accurate records of research, testing, and development activities in accordance with ISO 9001 procedures.
9. Maintain high communication levels within R&D and other departments, providing technical guidance and assistance.
Communication Skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for coordinating with various departments and stakeholders. The role requires influencing skills to progress actions and decisions, involving regular contact with colleagues, suppliers, approval bodies, and occasionally consultants.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Character
* Engineering qualification at degree/HND/HNC level or equivalent experience, with extensive thermodynamics and appliance testing experience.
* Knowledge of product standards and regulations for hot water devices, with experience in lab activities for volume manufacturing being advantageous.
* At least 5 years' experience in an R&D lab or similar industry at a senior level.
* Strong physical measuring skills and experience in electrical and mechanical activities, including test rig building and modifications.
* Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
