About The Role
Assistant Professor in the History of the Ancient Mediterranean (Ancient Numismatics), commencing on 1 September 2026. Permanent position, subject to satisfactory completion of probation (5 years, with possibility of negotiation leading to promotion to Associate Professor level).
About You
The Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick is seeking an active researcher with a proven track record in publishing in the field of ancient numismatics, and clear plans for significant future research that includes potential funding applications involving students.
Key responsibilities include:
* Teaching modules on ancient history and ancient visual and material culture, including existing modules covering the ancient histories of Greece and Rome and the Hellenistic world.
* Designing and teaching undergraduate modules in the history of the ancient Mediterranean and numismatics at MA level.
* Supervising dissertations at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level.
* Actively contributing to the development of the department’s Antiquities room and associated collections for research, teaching, impact and engagement.
* Carrying out administrative roles within the department and pastoral duties as required.
We welcome applications from candidates who can further diversify our syllabus and cover areas of the ancient Mediterranean currently not offered.
