Job Summary
BDCFT Acute Inpatient Services have funded new roles for pharmacy technicians to work on inpatient wards. The successful candidate will administer medicines, support admission and discharge medicines reconciliation, provide a full medicines management and optimisation service to the wards, and play an important role in the physical healthcare of our inpatients. The postholder will work closely with pharmacy staff including pharmacists, other pharmacy technicians and assistants. Full training and support to administer medicines will be provided.

Main Duties of the Job
To provide medicines management technical pharmacy services in order to improve the quality of patient care within Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.
* Undertake medication administration rounds.
* Screen patients on admission to the Trust, contacting GPs and/o ur‑other healthcare providers to ascertain their medication history and advising Trust staff of identified discrepancies.
* Provide smoking cessation advice to inpatients.
* Identify potential pharmaceutical issues that may arise during discharge planning and work with multi‑disciplinary teams to resolve.
* Dispense and issue prescriptions, including accuracy checking.
* Provide advice to patients and carers.
* Supply stock items to dispensaries and wards.
* Assess patients’ own medicines for use during the inpatient stay.
* Help ensure that all activities within the area of work comply with departmental procedures.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Significant experience of technical pharmacy service delivery, normally acquired after at least three years post qualification through NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or BTEC equivalent, plus specialist training to degree or equivalent level.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Desirable Qualifications
* Accreditation in Medicines Management or equivalent experience.
* Possession of Accredited Checking Technician qualification.
Essential Experience
* Appropriate post‑qualification pharmacy work experience covering main skills areas.
* Patient consultation skills.
* Experience of working as a Medicines Management Technician.
Desirable Experience
* Database management skills.
* Mentoring of junior staff.
* Report writing.
Essential Training
* Evidence of regular Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable Training
* Health & Safety / COSHH issues.
