Digital Product Manager – Mainframe (hybrid or remote)
Allstate Northern Ireland is looking for a Digital Product Manager to modernise and optimise our mainframe systems. The role is central to exploring next‑generation capabilities such as AI, machine learning and containerisation, leveraging technologies like zCX and z/OS 3.1 to enable on‑platform intelligence and scalable automation.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide input on decomposing complex problems into smaller manageable tasks by creating and prioritising a backlog for the Product Team.
* Assist with managing the product backlog, contribute towards creating an effective vision and provide timely stakeholder feedback on development iterations.
* Contribute towards creating the product strategy for one or more products in our growing digital product portfolio.
* Author, test and accept stories.
* Represent the voice of the customer; invest significant time with current and potential customers to understand their needs and habits.
* Engage in discovery/test & learn activities to quickly validate assumptions and product direction.
* Use customer feedback, detailed market analysis and data gathering to provide recommendations on decisions about product strategy.
* Define and manage metrics to measure the success of your efforts and to inform the overall product strategy.
Essential Criteria
* Legal right to work in the UK – Allstate is unable to provide sponsorship for this position.
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Digital Product Manager.
* Must have experience in COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM, and z/OS fundamentals.
* Experience with Agile methodologies and product management tooling.
* Experience with development processes, human‑centred design, UX/UI design and digital marketing.
* Previous experience of breaking down complex initiatives into incremental and iterative deliverables aligned with Agile best practices and effectively communicating innovative product concepts to cross‑functional development teams.
* Proven ability to apply data‑driven decision‑making to influence product direction and prioritisation.
Desirable Criteria
* Understanding of system behaviours, batch and online transaction performance tuning and capacity planning.
* Familiarity with RACF, encryption standards and audit requirements, especially in regulated industries such as insurance or finance.
