Exciting times are ahead at Ormston School! As we expand our Inclusion team, we are on the lookout for a passionate Tutor to champion the wellbeing of our young people and staff, taking on the vital role of ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant).
Situated in Headingley, our school provides a nurturing environment for students aged 5 to 18 with special educational needs and disabilities. Your Role and Responsibilities
* Enhance wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience, and behavior management at Ormston School.
* Collaborate with the education team to support students' personal and academic growth by removing barriers to learning.
* Encourage positive learning behaviors among students.
* Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
* Deliver engaging enrichment activities.
* Support lessons with academic understanding or address pastoral, emotional, or behavioral needs.
* Respond to immediate concerns and clarify situations.
* Create and compile information related to lessons and interventions.
* Assist in preparing information for meetings about pupils.
* Advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
* Lead interventions, including reading and phonics, while reviewing student progress.
* Develop the Pupil Voice initiative in collaboration with SLT regarding the Pupil Council.
* Build relationships with parents/carers, actively participating in transitions and consultations.
* Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.
What We're Looking For
* A strong educational background, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, along with sound IT skills.
* Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA, Cover Supervisor).
* Experience working with pupils with SEMH/Autism in an educational setting.
* Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
* A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
* Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
