Offer description

We are looking at expanding our business and require additional qualified support workers.

At Aspire Care Cumbria, we believe that all children and young people deserve a happy, positive, nurturing childhood that can support them to reach their full potential. Sadly many of our residents have not previously experienced this. We therefore feel that it is vital they receive therapeutic parenting surrounded by warmth, empathy and understanding, alongside boundaries and fair expectations. Our children and young people are at the center of everything we do and everything we are.

We are looking for individuals that also live by these values, to come and work with us as therapeutic residential support workers.

The Job Role:

You will be expected to provide care to our vulnerable children and young people.

This may include supporting them to develop self care skills, attend medical appointments, access their education, maintain contact with their family members including potentially supervising family time or transporting them to it. You will also need to support the child or young person to develop their social interactions as well as providing them with opportunities to experience multiple hobbies and interests, be a listening ear for them, provide guidance and advice and generally help to provide them with happy memories and experiences.

You will need to be able to:

* work in a positive, calm, nurturing, empathic and empowering way

* promote positive relationships with significant others

* encourage self esteem

* see behaviour as communication and have a curiosity around what the child may be trying to communicate.

Main Duties:

At the start of each shift, you will have a detailed handover from the previous staff, that will outline exactly what the daily tasks are. These tend to be dependent on whether it is term time or non-term time. Should you require it, there is always management support available.

Below is a summary of some of the tasks you may be required to complete during term time:

* Supporting the children and young people in all ways necessary and assisting them to complete their daily routines; including getting them up, getting them ready for school, promoting their personal hygiene, ensuring they have meals, transporting them to and from school and any after school activities, providing them with a clear bedtime routine and supporting them during the night if they require it.

* Assist the children and young people to clean their bedrooms, develop their life skills where appropriate and promoting their socialisation.

* Maintain the home environment to a high standard and undertake household duties, including tidying common areas, completion of laundry.

* Undertaking a food shop, preparation of healthy meals etc.

* Attending medical, school or other appointments and meetings with and for the child or young person.

* Completion of all necessary paperwork, including but not limited to, the daily summary, updating risk assessments, log books, home daily checks etc.

* Liaising with all necessary professionals as well as developing appropriate relationships with the child's family and significant others, to promote family time.

* If you are completing waking night shifts, you may be required to complete regular checks on our young people.

What Experience Will You Need?

* You should hold a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or above.

* Experience of working with children and young people who have suffered trauma would be desirable or working with children within a residential setting.

* A genuine desire to improve the outcomes for children and young people.

* An ability to develop and maintain relationships with children and young people.

* An understanding of Safeguarding principles and child protection legislation.

* Good understanding of the Care Standards Act 2000 and Children's Home (England) Regulations 2015.

* A valid manual driving licence

* In line with safer recruitment, you will be required to complete and Enhanced DBS check if successful and provide references.

* An understanding of attachment, therapeutic parenting and the impact of trauma on a child or young person, would be desirable.

We are also looking for a number of bank care workers, which would be on a self employed basis. If you are interested in either the above position or as a bank worker, or have any queries, please contact us at
