Job Title: Teaching Assistant - SEMH Special School Location: Bushey Contract Type: Full Time, Term Time Only Working Hours: 8:30am - 3:30/4:00pm (Monday to Friday) Salary: £90-£120 per day Start Date: ASAP About the School We are working with a specialist SEMH school aged 11-16 who have a range of complex needs and barriers to learning. Many of the pupils have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and other social, emotional and mental health needs. The Role We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our team on a full-time, term-time only basis. The successful candidate will support students in the classroom, help manage behaviour positively, and assist teachers in creating an engaging and structured learning environment. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may find mainstream education challenging. Key Responsibilities Support students in lessons to help them engage with learning Assist teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks Build positive and trusting relationships with students Support students with behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive learning environment Support students during transitions, break times, and other school activities The Ideal Candidate Will Have Experience working with young people, ideally in SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision settings An understanding of Autism, ADHD, ODD, and behaviour that challenges (desirable but not essential) Strong communication and relationship-building skills Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations A positive, proactive approach and a willingness to work as part of a team Safeguarding & Requirements The successful candidate must have a DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one prior to starting work.
