The postholders will lead the surgical Hospital at Night team with junior doctor and ANP support. There is resident anaesthetic cover through the Post-Operative Care Unit. Senior specialty-specific support is provided by the relevant on-call teams at the acute site (Grange University Hospital) with an efficient and timely step-up transport service available 24/7, staffed by in house established transfer practitioners. There is no on-site CEPOD facility and post-holders will not be expected to undertake any out of hours surgery. Out of hours responsibilities will be broadly similar to that of an RMO in an independent hospital. A bedroom is provided for use while resident on call, and a well-appointed surgical mess is available. The posts will be based within General Surgery, with daytime activities tailored to individuals’ needs or preferences, including education, management, quality improvement and research activity.
