We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Manager for our solo children's residential home supporting young people with SEMH/EBD needs. This role offers a clear progression pathway to Registered Manager, with genuine long-term opportunity — we currently have two further homes progressing through planning, and we're looking for the right person to grow with us and potentially manage future services.
Pay & Rota
* £15 per hour
* £60 per sleep-in
* Contract: approx. 160 hours per month
* Rota: 1 day on / 2 days off
* Plus one week of day shifts each month (as part of the rota)
Please note: This role requires experience in an Ofsted-regulated children's residential home. Adult care experience alone is not suitable.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
* Lead shifts, provide clear direction to staff, and maintain a safe, structured, child-centred environment.
* Support robust safeguarding practice, including incident reporting, risk assessments, and appropriate escalation to relevant agencies where required.
* Contribute to care planning and high-quality recording (daily logs, key work, placement plans, behaviour support strategies and outcomes).
* Coach and support staff practice on shift, helping to build consistency, routines, and high standards of care.
* Assist with staff rotas, shift coordination, and ensuring safe staffing levels.
* Maintain accurate medication records (MAR) and safe medication practices in line with policy.
* Liaise professionally with social workers, families, education and health professionals to promote positive outcomes.
* Support audits, learning from incidents, and continuous improvement activity.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience in an Ofsted-regulated children's residential home.
* Experience supporting young people with SEMH/EBD/challenging behaviour.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and residential children's home practice.
* Confident shift leader with the ability to support staff and maintain standards under pressure.
* Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) — or working towards.
Desirable
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to start (support/funding available for the right candidate).
* Experience supporting inspections/audits and quality assurance.
* Behaviour support training (e.g., Team Teach/PRICE or similar).

This is a genuine development role for someone who wants to step up. We will support the successful candidate with structured development, training, and leadership responsibility, with the opportunity to progress into a Registered Manager post as we expand — including potential to manage one of our two upcoming homes in the future.
