Overview
Henley Green Primary School is seeking an English Curriculum Leader to take responsibility for the overall provision of the English curriculum at the school, including Phonics and Early Reading.
Responsibilities
* Lead and take responsibility for developing the English curriculum and its strategic leadership and management.
* Develop and implement plans, policies, targets and practices within the context of the school’s aims and policies.
* Manage staff, providing appropriate support, challenge and advice as necessary; comply with school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to wellbeing and safeguarding of children.
* Develop and maintain an English curriculum that is progressive and cumulative from early years through to Year 6; create a clear curriculum plan linked to the SDP and the school’s overall curriculum intent.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the English national curriculum and work with the SLT to embed the school’s curriculum intent and implementation methods across the school.
* Ensure work given to pupils matches the aims of the curriculum and is coherently planned and sequenced; manage curriculum content that builds on knowledge and skills taught at each key stage.
* Adapt the English curriculum to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND; reflect the local context in the English curriculum.
* Implement assessment practices that help pupils embed knowledge and support staff in producing clear next steps without adding workload.
* Provide staff with knowledge and resources to assess and teach the English curriculum effectively; plan, organise and lead regular staff meetings; inform subject leaders of curriculum developments and monitor changes as they are implemented.
* Lead communications with parents and the wider community regarding the English curriculum.
* Identify staff training needs, provide support and organise training to improve teaching and learning; organise relevant CPD to support staff development.
* Undertake self-evaluation and annual curriculum review; promote the work of the curriculum area through events such as parents’ evenings and assemblies; attend all scheduled curriculum area meetings.
* Maintain high expectations of pupil behaviour, with positive and productive relationships and well-focused teaching; undertake additional duties as required by the headteacher.
* Lead and drive improvement across the curriculum area as part of school leadership.
