About the Role:
Effective risk management is a core value at the heart of our platform. It involves continuous identification, understanding, assessment, and evaluation of relevant risks, along with ensuring the adequacy of controls aligned with risk appetites and implementing improvements where necessary. First-line risk management requires a comprehensive understanding of risk practices, integrated with operational processes.
The role holder will serve as a key liaison between the first and second lines of defense, ensuring effective management of risk events and timely closure of audit actions. They will also be instrumental in achieving departmental and individual targets within set timelines and standards. Applying technical knowledge and innovative, solution-oriented thinking will be crucial.
This role also involves fostering a strong risk culture and supporting the Operations team and senior leaders in understanding and managing risk effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the design and implementation of a first-line risk function within Operations.
* Assist Operations in delivering strategic process improvements related to risk management, including:
* Operational control and regulatory compliance.
* Breach log management.
* Handling audit and risk incident actions.
* Conducting first-line monitoring reviews.
* Supporting risk escalations and queries.
* Coach team members and lead risk training sessions.
* Coordinate internal and external audits.
* Prepare and present risk reports to the COO, executive team, and board.
* Collaborate with second-line risk teams and operational units on risk activities like incident recording.
* Analyze trends in breaches and near misses, advising on process revisions when needed.
* Maintain skills and knowledge to meet training standards.
* Participate in monthly breach reviews with second-line teams.
* Support Business Continuity Planning (BCP) activities as required.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
* Strong operational knowledge, including CASS (notably CASS 6 and 7).
* Experience in risk management practices.
* Deep understanding of financial services, especially wrap platforms.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ownership and accountability.
* Ability to work independently and proactively.
* Capable of working under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Problem-solving skills with a proactive and innovative approach, including influencing abilities.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications.
* Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Experience in similar roles.
* Relevant industry qualifications such as CISI (Risk in Financial Services, Operational Risk) or CII CF2 are advantageous.
